New Jersey Rockets Squirt AA held a Leukemia Awareness Day on Saturday February 25th at Bridgewater Sports Arena to show our support for a dad on our team battling AML.
The theme of the day no one fights alone. Hockey is family and family supports their own. The event ran all day and fundraisers included chuck-a-puck,
bake sale, and 50/50 with all proceeds going to DKMS to find and fund bone marrow donors. DKMS was on-site taking cheek swabs and each game of the day concluded with a hat toss and hat trick on the ice.
All hats were donated to the Valerie Fund for kids undergoing chemotherapy. The event raised a total of $4,000 which was then matched by an
anonymous donor for a grand total of $8,000 to DKMS and 102 hats collected for the Valerie Fund. The team worked at the event all day to support their teammate and his family.
